Wyatt Mould
Excavator at Borden Excavating
Wyatt Mould trained to become a journeyman lineman at Northwest Lineman College (NLC) in Meridian, Idaho. Established in 1993, NLC is a private vocational school that provides technical education for careers in the power delivery industry.
After completing his studies, he joined the IBEW Mountain States Line Constructors Joint Apprenticeship and Training (MSLCAT) Program. This program combines classroom education with field experience to prepare apprentices for work in electrical construction. Through this training, he gained skills in live-line work, electrical troubleshooting, and high-voltage maintenance while strengthening his knowledge of safety procedures and electrical theory.
Wyatt worked on power lines across Montana, Colorado, Utah, and Texas for three years, traveling as needed to help restore service and expand electrical systems. His time in the field exposed him to different climates and terrains, helping him develop adaptability, problem-solving ability, and teamwork—skills vital for success in the power industry.
Training at Northwest Lineman College
At NLC, he completed a 15-week pre-apprentice program that combined classroom instruction with practical training. The coursework covered power delivery, line construction, electrical theory, and safety practices. He learned about circuits, voltage, and current while gaining hands-on experience with pole climbing, conductor handling, splicing, and using specialized tools and equipment.
Safety was a key focus throughout his training. He was instructed in high-voltage precautions, fall protection, lock-out/tag-out procedures, insulated tools, and proper personal protective equipment (PPE).
Work as a Lineworker
As a lineman, he was responsible for building, maintaining, and repairing the systems that carry electricity from generation plants to homes and businesses. His work involved overhead lines, underground cables, poles, transformers, switches, and other essential power grid components.
Wyatt performed tasks such as stringing conductors, inspecting and testing equipment, splicing and repairing wires, and replacing damaged poles or components. Many tasks required working under challenging conditions, such as storms or high elevations, where safety, precision, and endurance were essential.
Lineworker Skills
Through his education and experience, he developed strong technical judgment and diagnostic ability. He learned to perform precision physical work, operate specialized tools, and maintain focus while working at heights and near high-voltage systems. His job demanded teamwork, adaptability, and discipline to work effectively in challenging outdoor environments.
Work at Borden Excavating
Wyatt has been employed for over three years as an excavator at Borden Excavating, a construction company based in St. Calimesa, California. His role involves working with wet utilities, including installing water mains and servicing customer meter boxes.
While at Borden, he also completed a two-year construction laborer apprenticeship through AGC in Riverside, California. AGC operates one of the state’s most extensive open-shop apprenticeship programs, providing advanced training to build a skilled workforce. Through this experience, he gained practical knowledge in trenching, grading, pipe installation, and heavy equipment operation—skills that complement his lineman background.
Wyatt plans to return to his work as a lineman and complete his apprenticeship through the NJTAC IBEW program.
Volunteer Work
He volunteers at Carol’s Kitchen in Riverside, California, which provides hot meals to the homeless four days a week. He has contributed over 100 volunteer hours, helping prepare and serve food to those in need.
Personal Life
A Man of Faith
Faith plays a central role in his life. His Christian beliefs guide his values, actions, and approach to work and service to others.
Family is also very important to him, and he enjoys spending quality time with them whenever possible.
Hobbies
In his free time, he enjoys activities that keep him active and outdoors, such as golf, motorcycle riding, and camping. He also likes the precision and focus of pool and skateboarding, and maintains his fitness through regular workouts.
Wyatt Mould continues to apply his skills, faith, and dedication in his professional and personal life, building on his experiences to grow and contribute wherever he serves.
